Wax longer and thinner than normal, since fresh cold snow on the tracks will shear and a longer grip zone will help.  

 Classic skiers might find a skin ski or other waxless grip option to be the easiest solution.

Dec 28th.    The Methow Valley Ski Rodeo is taking place at the McCabe Trails this morning.

SHUTTLE 

On each Saturday from December 28 - February 29, Methow Trails offers transportation service between Winthrop and Mazama for those looking for a one-way ski journey along the iconic Methow Community Trail.  The shuttle is free, but a valid ski trail pass is required.  

Pick-up times are:

• Winthrop Town Trailhead 10:00am

• Brown's Farm Trailhead 10:15am

• Mazama Trailhead 11:00am

• Brown's Farm Trailhead 11:15am

There's still not enough snow on the valley floor for skiing near town.

But grooming at Wa Pass has skate and classic and great views.    Temps today are in the mid-20's so things should feel pretty good.

Washington Pass has been groomed for both classic and skating!    It's 12F this morning.
The forecast calls for light snow and a high of 19 at the Pass.

It's about 13F at Washington Pass, and fresh grooming should be finished by 9:30 a.m.

Nov 29 Wa Pass WOTD

Black Friday?     Hmmm.   Snow covers the ground, so I think maybe it's a misnomer.

It's 3F at Washington Pass and 4F in Winthrop at 7:00 a.m.   Cold from top to bottom.

But there's plenty of snow at the Pass and tracked classic skiing, so let it warm up a bit and go scoot around a bit.

Washington Pass is at 7F this morning with a little wind.      Since WA Pass is the only groomed skiing nearby,  WOTD is for that area.

As a little side note, Nordic Ultratune is closed on Thanksgiving day and then will be open on Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon.     Stop in!

Nov 27 WOTD Wa Pass

Since there's no skiing on the valley floor, this report will be for the Washington Pass zone today.

The story this morning at Wa Pass is the wind.       Gusts to 45 mph, and steady over 30 mph.   And 9F.     Forecast high of 17.      And new snow!   4-6 inches!   So basically a howler up there.          But maybe you wanna ski anyway?   It's your day off and you gotta git some skiing?       Okay, lesssgo!

Glide wax:   Swix 6 or Toko Blue

Grip wax:   Start Blue, Swix Blue Extra or Rode Blue Super.

Or maybe some waxless skis for your early season shuffling.

The overlook loop was groomed on Tuesday afternoon, with set classic tracks, if the wind and new snow hasn't filled them in.  

Snow ! Nov 26th WOTD

Snow throughout the valley.   Anywhere from 3 to 5 inches, but not likely enough for any groomed skiing except at Washington Pass, where the short view loop is running.

Temps in the upper single digits overnight last night.
